ICA-SHEATH – Laminated Insulation

Premium Laminated SheathingICA-SHEATH is a laminated insulation board with an Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) core. It can be laminated with clear or metalized polypropylene film. The strength of ICA-SHEATH provides a high degree of protection while enhancing the performance of your home’s existing insulation. This sheathing lays flat on the wall, can be perforated for breathability, is extremely durable, lightweight and easily installed with common hand tools. Providing efficient R-Values, ICA-SHEATH laminated insulation is economical and will help to conserve energy when installed properly. It is also moisture resistant, reducing the risk of mold and mildew, making it an ideal choice for exterior or below-grade insulation.

ICA manufactures ICA-SHEATH from 3/8 inch up to 4 inches thick.

ICA-SHEATH starts with an expanded polystyrene core, which meets the specifications of ASTM-C578. It is then laminated with printed or reflective polypropylene film facers on one or both sides. ICA-SHEATH Plus is also available, which includes an insect resistant additive.

The biggest culprit of energy loss, and in turn higher cost to homeowners, is thermal bridging. “Heating and cooling account for about 48% of the energy use in a typical U.S. home, making it the largest energy expense for most homes.” (U.S. Department of Energy). Heat will escape through the path of least resistance. Standard building foundations that utilize studs, for example, have multiple exit/entry locations, or breaks in the building envelope. This factor makes the insulation significantly less effective. Using a rigid foam sheathing such as ICA-SHEATH protects the insulation with a continuous barrier while adding more R-value to the construction. In effect, there is less transfer of energy and thus significant savings on heating and cooling.
