Application and Use of Rigid Foam Insulation for Perimeter Insulation Projects

As a closed-cell, rigid polystyrene foam, EPS (expanded polystyrene) is already known for its strength, stability, low moisture absorption rate and high R-value with long-term performance. EPS does not decay over time nor supports the growth of bacteria. It retains its physical properties during freeze-thaw cycles and its compressive strength (which can vary based on density) will protect your foundation from backfill and load damage. Unlike extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation, our ICA-LITE EPS does not contain any colored dyes that can leach into the environment. EPS is composed of organic elements – carbon, hydrogen and oxygen – and does not contain chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) or hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFS) which are greenhouse gases found in XPS.

EPS enhances the waterproofing product applied, can add LEED points to your construction projects and adds overall insulation value which reduces heating and cooling costs in the long run – all at cost savings compared to other mediums.
